The restaurant was visited on Saturday, 30th Mar 2002 in the evening.
The food ordered was: Poppadoms and onion bhajies to start. Main courses were Lamb Kokum and Tiger Prawn Peri Peri with boiled rice, keema naan and sag panir.
Quality of food
I was disappointed with the food. My Lamb Kokum was very tomatoey and bitter - the menu said it should be medium-hot but I failed to detect any heat at all; it suffered for that. The Prawn Peri Peri was pretty hot and fairly tasty but still lacking in any real depth to the spices. My sag panir was rather small but had a real fresh spinach flavour to it.
Quality of service
Service was quick and friendly.
Variety on menu
The menu is extensive with the normal classics and lots of Goan specials.
Decor & ambience
A half-hearted almost Hawaiian feel, some cheesy music and animated waterfall pictures. Cheap but relaxing none the less.
Location
A bit out of the main area of town (and too far to walk from my house!) and a slightly rough area.
Cost
Overall Goa is a bit cheaper than other Indian restaurants in town.
In summary
I had heard some good things about Goa The Spice Of Life but I was disappointed with the food - it just wasn't as interesting and tasty as I had hoped.
Our cab driver on the way home said he had had some very good meals there, but at other times some poor ones. Perhaps we just caught them on a bad day.
