A takeaway was eaten on Wednesday, 6th Feb 2002 in the evening.
The food ordered was: Goan Vindaloo, Chicken Jalfrazi with onion bhajees and a plain nan.
Quality of food
The portions are huge and delicious. The onion bhajees were big and came with a crisp salad. My Goan Vindaloo was nice and hot (without blowing my head off), the Goan spices working wonderfully with the tang of vinegar marinade. The Jalfrazi was hot, as it should be, without being overloaded by chillies and there was a real fresh flavour of peppers: excellent.
Even the nan bread stands out as exceptional - easily enough for two and quite clearly freshly cooked.
Quality of service
They are always extremely friendly on the phone, but desperately slow to deliver (nearly an hour!).
Variety on menu
There's a good range of restaurant standards, some variations, and a good deal of Goan specials; plenty to choose from.
Decor & ambience
You hardly notice the building itself and inside there are bare walls, two seats and a fuzzy TV - not somewhere to wait for your curry to be prepared. Obviously that's pretty irrelevent if you're ordering from home.
Location
10 minutes walk for me; a bit out of town for most people. But delevery is free on orders over £15 so it doesn't really matter.
Cost
Very reasonably priced - there are only 2 dishes over a fiver.
In summary
The Guardian once described The Delhi Darba as providing "the best Indian and Goan food outside India and Goa". In my opinion it's certainly the best in Brighton and I've had some of my favourite ever Indian meals from here. Such a shame it's only a takeaway.
